Lower “Sac”
The Klamath is the most important North American river south of the Columbia River for anadromous fish migration.[10] Its salmon, steelhead and rainbow trout have adapted to unusually high water temperatures and acidity levels relative to other rivers in the Pacific Northwest. The numerous fish were a major source of food for Native Americans, who have inhabited the basin for at least 7,000 years.
The “Winter-run” fish arrive after significant rains around the New Year and stick around until February. When temperatures decrease, using drifting nymphs and egg patterns tends to be effective. During winter, harsh weather keeps most anglers away, providing a chance for solitude while pursuing Steelhead on the Klamath. By the end of 2024, the Klamath will be undammed and home to the world’s largest dam removal project.

Weather and River Conditions
We do our best to keep customers happy and safe, but some things are beyond our control. Your guide might need to cancel or change a trip if the weather or river conditions are unsafe. We won’t cancel fishing trips just because it’s cold, rainy, or snowy. If the river is okay for fishing, your guided fly fishing trip should happen as planned.
