McCloud River

McCloud walk & wade trips are tailored for 1-2 people near McCloud, CA. The day begins at 8 am and ends at 5 pm., complete with all necessary gear and lunch provided. Our team of guides comprises patient instructors with a collective experience exceeding 80 years. On a typical day, we cover 1-3 miles of water.

McCloud River Trips

The McCloud river is home to one of the most infamous of all rainbow trout the McCloud river red band; which has been planted in rivers from New Zealand to Argentina and Chilean Patagonia.

In addition to these, world famous red band trout the McCloud offers brown trout over 20 inches that will attack a streamer or slowly sip a dry fly! This is truly a gem of a river having all of the classic freestone style water. You can nymph all day or throw a dry and have success. There is a special place in the heart of every fly fisherman for the McCloud River. The McCloud starts at the foot of Mount Shasta and flows south to Shasta Lake. Fishing is open year round (Check regulations).

Included

  • Instruction and Guidance
  • Rods, reels, lines and all terminal tackle, this includes flies, leaders, tippet, split shot, indicators and any other expendable amenities need for the day.
  • Lunch for 2 anglers, water / gatorade, snacks

Not Included

  • Not included in your guided fishing package: fishing license (regular license and steelhead report card), waders, boots, and items of a personal nature (rain gear, sunscreen, gloves etc.).
  • Shuttle: typically anglers provide a shuttle to the take-out in the morning of the trip.  If a  shuttle service is desired it can be arranged in advance of the trip for an additional charge.
  • Alcoholic Beverages: This includes un-distilled fermented beverages such as beer, wine, and cider.
  • Gratuities: if you are inclined to tip your guide 20% is customary.

Payment Policy

You need to pay the full amount when you book your trip. If you cancel 30 days before the trip, you get a full refund. If you cancel within 30 days and can’t reschedule within the year, you get a 50% refund.

Weather and River Conditions

We do our best to keep customers happy and safe, but some things are beyond our control. Your guide might need to cancel or change a trip if the weather or river conditions are unsafe. We won’t cancel fishing trips just because it’s cold, rainy, or snowy. If the river is okay for fishing, your guided fly fishing trip should happen as planned.
